Privacy Policy
How we handle your information on the good road.
Introduction
Last updated: July 29, 2026.
This Privacy Policy describes how BonaVia (the brand name for travel protection plans) and its affiliates collect, use, and share your information, including personal information, when you use bonavia.insure, bonavia.travel, and the services available through them, or any of our products or services that link to or otherwise reference this Policy.
This Policy does not apply to websites, services, or applications that are not operated by BonaVia, even if you reach them from our services. Those sites are governed by their own privacy policies.
Your use of the services is also subject to our Terms of Use, including their provisions on limitations of liability and the resolution of disputes. By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
Information we collect
We collect information that identifies, describes, or is reasonably capable of being associated with you. Personal information does not include publicly available information or information that has been deidentified or aggregated.
Information you provide directly to us includes:
- Identifiers and contact information, such as your name, address, email address, and phone number.
- Quote and trip information, such as destination, travel dates, prepaid trip cost, and traveler ages, collected during the quote flow.
- Account details, such as the email address, phone number, and credentials used to sign in to your account.
- Policy and claims information, including materials you submit in connection with a claim.
- Payment information needed to process your purchase, such as billing details, which are handled by our payment processor.
- Message contents, such as messages you send to our support team or through the site’s chat and contact features.
- Organization association, when you buy through an organization’s BonaVia page or code, so sponsorship credit is credited to that organization.
- Preferences and any other information you choose to provide, for example in forms or surveys.
Information collected automatically includes:
- Device identifiers, such as IP address, device type, browser type, and browser language.
- Usage activity, such as pages viewed, links clicked, and referring URL, collected through cookies and similar technologies described below.
- General location inferred from your IP address, such as the region you are in.
We may also receive information from our insurance partners, the licensed producer, carriers, and administrators, in the course of issuing and servicing coverage, for example policy and claim information.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the services: produce quotes, complete purchases, issue and service coverage, and support claims.
- Operate organization sponsorships, including crediting sponsorship to the right organization when you buy through its page or code.
- Communicate with you about your quotes, policies, and account, respond to your inquiries, and deliver documents you request, including quotes you asked us to save.
- Evaluate and improve our products and services, including through analytics and, where applicable, actuarial and underwriting models used to develop and maintain the plans.
- Send marketing communications where permitted; you can opt out at any time as described below.
- Detect and prevent fraud, protect the security of the services, and protect BonaVia, our partners, and others.
- Comply with law, enforce this Policy and our Terms of Use, and respond to lawful requests from regulators, courts, and law enforcement.
- Support business operations, including recordkeeping, accounting, and any merger, acquisition, or reorganization.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the services and as required for legitimate business purposes, including insurance recordkeeping obligations, tax and accounting requirements, and the resolution of disputes. Quote data you did not ask us to save is kept only as long as operationally necessary. When information is no longer required, we delete or deidentify it.
Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to legal and regulatory retention requirements.
- Request a portable copy of your information.
- Object to or request restriction of certain processing.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in the Contact section below. We respond within the timeframes required by law. We may decline requests that are excessive, repetitive, or unfounded, and in some cases we are legally required to retain certain records despite a deletion request.
Marketing opt-out: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or contact support. You may still receive transactional and service-related messages, such as policy documents and account notices.
California residents: you may request details about how we collect, use, and share personal information. Some browsers offer a Do Not Track setting; we currently do not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Children
Our services are intended for adults, and we make no active effort to collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. Minors may be covered travelers under plans purchased on their behalf by a parent or legal guardian, and we handle their information only as needed to provide that coverage.
Changes to this policy
We update this Policy from time to time, and we ask you to check back periodically for the latest version. If we make material changes to how we use your information in a manner different from what was stated at the time of collection, we will notify you by posting a notice on the site or by other means, and take any additional steps required by applicable law.
