FAQ

Straight answers.

The questions travelers and organizations ask us most, answered plainly.

Coverage basics

What does travel protection actually cover?

Three kinds of trouble: losing the money you prepaid for a trip you couldn’t take, getting sick or hurt far from home, and bags or plans that don’t arrive on time. See the full walkthrough on our coverage pages. Exact benefits and limits vary by plan and state.

When should I buy it?

Early: ideally soon after your first trip deposit. Some benefits, like the pre-existing condition waiver on select plans, depend on purchasing within a set window after that first payment. The protection also starts working before you leave: cancellation coverage protects the months between booking and boarding.

Who underwrites my plan?

Coverage is provided through licensed insurance carriers: BonaVia works with more than one, and the carrier underwriting your specific plan is named in your policy documents and certificate. BonaVia is the producer, licensed in all 50 states.

What about annual plans?

If you travel all year, a business team on the road, a frequent volunteer, one annual plan can cover every trip you take for a year. See annual multi-trip protection, or choose “I travel all year” in the quote flow.

Quotes & pricing

Do I need everyone’s birth date to get a quote?

Not to see a price. Ages are all we need to quote you, so nobody hands over a birth date just to look. At checkout we do ask for a date of birth for each traveler, because the coverage documents require one for everyone insured. It has to work out to the same age the quote was priced on, so the price you saw is the price you qualify for.

Do kids cost less?

Generally yes: children typically rate lower than adults, and travelers 65+ typically rate higher. The quote flow prices your actual mix of travelers.

What if I don’t know my trip cost yet?

A ballpark works, and you can skip it entirely: you’ll still see a price. Trip cost mainly sets your cancellation protection, so you can refine it before you purchase.

Can I get my quote emailed to me?

Yes: near the end of the flow we offer to save your quote to your email. It’s optional, and skipping it never hides your price.

Can I cover my whole team or group?

Yes. The quote flow covers up to six travelers per quote today, and organizations planning group trips can start a conversation with us for whole-team enrollment.

Partners & the giveback

Does buying through my organization cost me more?

No. The price is the same as you’d pay anywhere else, and nothing about the coverage or a claim changes. The sponsorship your organization receives comes out of what BonaVia collects, never out of your pocket.

What is the sponsorship, exactly?

When you buy through an organization’s page, sponsorship credit is credited to that organization’s cause, in plain dollars, shown at the moment you choose your plan. Full details are in our disclosures.

Claims & trust

How do claims work?

You file with your carrier, with your certificate number and documentation, and BonaVia can help you get it started. The walkthrough is on our claims page.

Is BonaVia licensed?

Yes: plans are offered through a producer licensed in all 50 states, and every policy is issued by a licensed carrier.
