For Wedding Guests

The RSVP is yes. The trip is protected.

A destination wedding asks every guest to book flights, rooms, and time off months ahead. Here is what protects that money and those travelers — and why it isn't the same thing as the couple's wedding insurance.

What is wedding guest travel insurance?

Trip protection each traveling guest carries for their own trip to the celebration: reimbursement of prepaid, non-refundable costs if a covered reason cancels their travel, help with delays and missing bags, and emergency medical care away from home. It protects the guest's trip — not the event.

The confusion is understandable: searching “wedding insurance” surfaces policies for the couple. Those cover the event. The guest flying in from three time zones away is a traveler, and what a traveler needs is ordinary travel protection — the full walkthrough is on our coverage pages.

Guest trip protection vs. event liability insurance — what's the difference?

Event liability insurance protects the hosts: the couple's obligations around the venue and the event itself. Guest trip protection covers an individual traveler's own trip — the airfare, the hotel nights, a medical emergency far from home. One protects the party; the other protects the people getting there.

How does one link cover a whole guest list?

Organizers who set up an event with BonaVia get one shareable link that opens the quote flow with the trip's destination and dates already filled in. Each guest who follows it sees their own price and buys their own plan — one link on the wedding website or in the group chat, and every guest has a direct road to coverage.

Nobody manages anyone else’s paperwork: every purchase is the guest’s own policy, at the same price they would pay anywhere else. And when the event is set up through a partner organization’s page, each purchase adds sponsorship credit toward the cause that organization names. Organizing travel for a group regularly? How much does it cost a guest?

Pricing varies by traveler age, trip cost, and trip duration. Trips are covered from about $6 a day, and the quote flow shows a guest's exact price in about 90 seconds — ages are enough to see a price, and no account is needed.

Trip cost mainly sets the cancellation protection, so guests can quote with a ballpark and refine before purchase.

Questions wedding guests ask

The couple bought wedding insurance. Are the guests covered?

No. Wedding or event insurance protects the hosts — the event itself and the couple’s obligations around it. Each guest’s flights, hotel nights, and prepaid trip costs are the guest’s own, and protecting them takes the guest’s own trip protection.

Is it worth insuring a weekend trip to a wedding?

That depends on what you have prepaid and where you are going. Cancellation protection covers the months between booking and boarding, so the non-refundable fare and hotel block deposit are protected if a covered reason stops you from going. Trip cost mainly sets that protection, and a ballpark works to see a price.

The wedding is abroad. Does my health insurance work there?

Many US health plans thin out or stop at the border. Emergency medical and evacuation benefits are designed for exactly this: help with treatment costs where you are and, where medically necessary, transport to adequate care.

Can the whole guest list be covered in one purchase?

Households can: the quote flow covers up to six travelers per quote, so a family traveling together buys once. A whole guest list is better served by a shared event link — each guest buys their own plan at their own price — or, for organizations, a group enrollment arranged with us directly.

When should guests buy?

Early — ideally soon after booking the flights and the room. Cancellation protection starts working the day you buy, and the pre-existing condition waiver on select plans depends on purchasing within a set window after your first trip payment.

Who underwrites the coverage?

Coverage is provided through licensed insurance carriers: BonaVia works with more than one, and the carrier underwriting your specific plan is named in your policy documents and certificate. BonaVia is the producer, licensed in all 50 states. Details are in our disclosures.
